‘Has the rain a father?’A biblical theology of water

Introduction
In the Bible, water – as rain, dew, springs, streams or rivers – is recognized as vital for life, both human and animal. And as God is seen as the creator and sustainer of all that exists, water is generally regarded as a blessing from God; its absence in a time of drought is often seen as God’s rebuke to his people. The Bible is rich in language about water, either the real thing, or water as a metaphor for spiritual sustenance.
