Abstract:

I greatly enjoyed reading this paper and learned much from it. Let me just add an anecdote from classical antiquity. According to Cicero, Chrysippus the Stoic believed that pigs have souls. The soul of the pig serves the same function as salt — it preserves the meat from corruption until we are ready to eat it!
